Thoracic Cancer Treatment
The cancers common in this region include the oesophagus (food pipe) and lungs.
Lung cancer is the most common cause of cancer related deaths.
Smoking has got 70% increased incidence of lung cancers.
Common Symptoms:
- Lungs
- Persisant cough
- Blood in sputum
- Difficulty in breathing
- Change/ Hoarseness of voice
- Oesophagus
- Difficulty in swallowing (Liquids > solids)
- Vomiting
- Neck lumps
- Change/ Hoarseness of voice
Diagnosis:
The mode of establishing the diagnosis will be CT guided or bronchoscopic in case of lung cancers and endoscopic in oesophageal cancers. Whole body PET CT scan will be the staging investigation.
Treatment:
Depending on the stage of the disease surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy either alone or in combination will be used therapeutically.
